World Heritage Sites in Sweden – Places that Make a Difference

Today, there are 1223 World Heritage Sites in 168 countries. 15 of them are in Sweden. A World Heritage Site is an environment considered to be completely unique in the world and therefore significant for all of humanity.

About World Heritage Sweden

The World Heritage in Sweden Association - ViS - is a non-profit interest organization for the natural and cultural heritage sites in Sweden that have been included on UNESCO's World Heritage List. The association's purpose is to run a network that supports the management of World Heritage sites in Sweden. We are also engaged in Nordic and European collaboration, where two members of our board sit on the board of the Nordic World Heritage Association and participate in an annual meeting with the European World Heritage Associations.

Cooperation between World Heritage sites, both nationally and internationally, is also one of UNESCO’s fundamental principles regarding World Heritage. Supporting one another, sharing experiences, and collaborating contribute to the development of these operations, which is central to ViS. The association’s work is funded by a symbolic membership fee. Each year, a national World Heritage conference is organized.
